Kona 2018 - race day +3
9 hours sleep and we were up to have breakfast with the sunrise.
We drove to Hapuna Beach, just a few miles north of the Mauna Lani. Its been voted America's best beach and is a clean stretch of white sand, flanked by lava rocks. The sea graduates from light to dark blue and the lack of reef (snorkel potential) is compensated by the waves that provide great body surfing.

Another pro spotting yesterday. male Pro Matt Russel, who had the horrific accident on the Queen K last year, was playing with his baby on the beach - he seemed to full of beans despite his 6th place finish. In my opinion, the most incredible story of this years World Champs.
We towelled off and drove 45 mins up to Waimea, where we purchased MORE surf clothing and ate at a great 'retro' noodle bar.

We visited the Mauna Lani beach in the afternoon, the site of our 'turtle on the beach' spotting years ago, however, we only saw them swimming tonight, but did snap some great sunset photos, naturally.
Then it was home for a dip in the pool (aka, sand removal) followed by Faye's chicken salad and blueberry pie.
