Queen K & Ali’i 5 sleeps...

It‘s taper week!!! The days are really flying by now. Town is becoming more like a circus and there are still plenty of triathletes out cycling and running.
Today was my final breakthrough session, shorter but at IM pace. Rode just over 50km of the Queen K highway in direction from Hapuna back to Kona. There was a headwind most of the way so I tucked down low and felt great. Consumed about one and a half bottles, each containing approx 650ml. I will be carrying 3 bottles now rather than the original 2 planned as they aren’t quite 750ml size and I will be using the Special needs feed station at the half way turnaround at Hawi to pick up 2 or 3 more.

My favourite view...the Pacific ocean!
Lots of photographers out snapping away now, drones flying around at the pier and underwater photographers too.
Breakfast with Bob started today! Very keen to go and watch as a big fan so will try and get there tomorrow.
Back to my condo along Ali’i drive where it’s getting a bit crazy, having to be super careful to avoid tourists, triathletes running on the side of the road and impatient locals. Then headed out to do 5km during the hot part of the day, 30 degrees but humidity just 50%. It gets more humid here by the end of the day. Legs felt super, HR still a bit high but not unmanageable. Will have to focus very much on starting the run at my intended pace.
Met up with Tanja Slater & her husband Peter for a beer (it’s my birthday tomorrow!), had fun catching up with them both. Then off to dinner with a new friend Julian for some delicious local Mahi Fish then back to base for much needed sleep.
